![]() ![]() Oda didn't even give the 2 halfs of the strawhat crew an actual reunion. Characters spend their screentime running and fighting, development happens in 1-2 panels increments, usually while running. Obviously one slip up isn't enough to taint my view of something I've followed for almost two decades, but outside of the lame fake out deaths, I've never been so let down by something from this story. I'll stick around until this country is back on its feet." Maybe that's the conversation she had with Luffy, but we don't know, and might never know. Yamato's choice was off-screened, and her reasoning is just the complete opposite of the only thing she won't shut tf up about? All it had to be was "Damn that admiral was tough and we didn't really manage. What the fuck was he doing? Vivi had some massive turmoil about not leaving with the crew, and had a great reason to stay behind. I wasn't in love with her but she could definitely have brought an interesting dynamic if she was more fleshed out.īut to do all that work he put in with her character, while simultaneously not really fleshing her out, then having her NOT be a fixture of the story. I was never in either camp when it came to her joining. That being said, I have absolutely no fucking clue what Oda was doing with Yamato. I am a massive fan, hopefully verified by my comment history. I'd say it's one of the greatest stories told and that there is something in there that everyone would connect to on some degree. If you asked anyone who knows me and what I like, almost all of them would say that One Piece is my number 1 media. I always saw her as a girl but I don’t blame people for being confused so another thing oda fumbled on. ![]() She’s cosplaying as oden but is referred to characters like luffy as “he” but in the vivre card her gender is a girl like pick one. The he/she/they debates got old and annoying fast because oda couldn’t be more clear on her gender identity. Oh and don’t even get me started on the toxicity she brought to the fandom. So yeah I like Yamato but oda fumbled imo If she joined she could have potentially developed and improved but now she’s just gonna be another gag that will at best cameo in the final war. Yamato feels thrown in and don’t get me started on the nakama fake out. It’s honestly surprising how underdeveloped or is compared to the side characters I just mentioned.Įven Rebecca who does the least here has a stronger bond with luffy and was at least built up. Yamato was thrown half way, gets to do little (for ex, she was going to stop the monster made by kanjuro from blowing up the weapons stash but Kidd and law accidentally did that for her by throwing big mom down there who took down the monster so her going there was pointless) and barley has a dynamic and bond with luffy. ![]() These side characters were built up for awhile, built bonds with luffy and were key factors in their own arc. Think of characters like Vivi, Rebecca, Shirahoshi, Law, etc. For one she was introduced halfway into the arc when she should have been built up much earlier. For me I’m a fan of Yamato and wish she joined but I have major criticisms of her character. ![]()
